After several break-ins and significant damage to the door and frame, we decided it was time to find a better solution. The first step was to repair and rebuild the original door, replacing the damaged and rotting pieces of wood. Then, channels were cut in the back paneling to accept new, steel reinforcements. A frame welded from angle iron covers the outside edge of the door, while steel reinforced bars span the middle of the door. Added to this reinforcement is a new locking mechanism that includes two metal plates that mate to allow a double padlock, protected by a steel plate comprised of quarter inch steel and 1 inch steel tube segments (with a decorative “S” welded to lessen the visual impact).
