Once we had all the preparation complete with the water line, electrical, and speaker conduit, it was time for our fireplace! We talked about what we want, and our mason laid out the elevation in conjunction with our patio paver, who wanted to have a specific pitch from the house. Initial layout was an exciting time as we started to see how it would begin to change our backyard, greatly expanding our outdoor living space. One of the first steps was digging the footings for the six posts and the fireplace itself. Both the boys enjoyed the big hole while we waited for inspection. We actually left for the weekend when the concrete was poured and came back to all six posts and a huge base for the fireplace, to the boys dismay.
Watching the progress day-by-day was exciting, and coming home to yet another part of the work completed was fun. The stone was brought in from Wisconsin, and created the look we wanted that coordinated with our house. The massive stone fireplace soon rose above our yard, rising above the Oak tree a few feet away. Once completed, we enjoyed beers and a makeshift fire with the masonry crew. Serious progress, and a fireplace that really creates a perfect setting for a wood burning fire.
