Light Panels and Magnetic Wall

Next to our basement home theater wall, we have an interesting alcove under our eat in kitchen area, with an interesting shape. Considering how to use that space, our boys wanted a place they could draw and mark up. I explored marker board paint, but after seeing several negative reviews on the long term appearance, I decided to use glass panels instead. For the glass, I used frosted, tempered table tops from IKEA. I also wanted to try something unique for lighting, so I backed the glass panels with LED color changing strips in addition to some normal LED cord that I already had. In between the two panels, I created a large, metal wall piece by bending metal around a wood frame and riveting the metal in place. In order to bend the metal, I looked into metal benders, but decided to make my own out of things I had lying around. To hold the metal in place and create the look I wanted, the metal required quite a lot of riveting, and I did break a rivet gun part way through the process and had to replace it. In order to give the metal a unique look, I used a MAP torch to flame the outside edge of the metal, which created great dark colors.
